After flyover opening Station Road, Kodambakkam is pedestrians’ nightmare

The Rangarajapuram Flyover was recently opened for traffic along one arm, landing close to the Kodambakkam Railway Station. Most vehicles use the flyover to enter United India Colony, Rangarajapuram and some go onward to Ashok Nagar and K.K.Nagar.  These have to use the Station Road, Kodambakkam close to the local post office.

But this road which has miraculously retained its footpath is now worse than it used to be before the flyover was opened – pedestrians, two-wheeler riders, commuters taking the train and the new addition, cars all compete for space. As these pictures show, the wide footpath is serving everyone but pedestrians.  But unless the walkers are alert, this will fall victim to road widening, and all hope will be lost.
